Stephanie Scott-Wise is 16 and from Dalton in Furness. She started Level 2 Beauty Therapy @ Kendal College in September 2017.
Beauty Therapy was actually my second choice. I wanted to study Sport, but my GCSE grades were not quite good enough. However, if I knew how brilliant my Beauty course was going to be it would have been my first choice!
AM: Why did you choose Kendal College?
SSW: The reputation the College has is excellent and the standards are really high. I know that I will achieve a valued qualification.
AM: Is College like you had expected. If not, why?
SSW: Better than I expected. I have dyslexia and was worried that I would struggle with the theory work. But, the help and encouragement I get from both the Learning Services Team and the tutors is so good I’m not worried any more.
AM: What do you most enjoy about College life?
SSW: The staff are all really friendly and supportive. I am treated as an individual.
AM: What opportunities have you had as a student at the College?
SSW: There is a trip to Barcelona planned and also London. I never thought that I would get the chance to go to a Beauty Show. I have been inspired to do my own research and explore the beauty industry in more depth. My mum is really interested in what I am doing on my course and my future career plans.
AM: How would you describe your College experience so far?
SSW: Very positive. It is all really exciting.
AM: What are you hoping to do after College?
SSW: I want to progress to the Level 3 course and then Level 4 Salon Management. My long term aim is to work on a cruise ship and then own my own salon and teach others how to become a Beauty Therapist.
AM: If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
SSW: Once you make a decision about which course you would like to study, give it your full commitment and you will reach your goal. It is an opportunity to achieve something important for your future.
