I am in the Second Year of my BTEC Level Three Music course. The first few months at Kendal College were very eventful to say the least. When I came for my induction week I knew absolutely nobody on my course and had a whole row of seats to myself in the venue! Sad, I know. By the end of the second week I had made friends with nearly everyone on my course and we had been put into our first bands!
The theme for our first gig was “Movers and Groovers” and each band was going to play 4 songs on the night of the gig. The tutors would pick two for each band and then the bands themselves would pick another two. We had rehearsal time on Monday and Friday afternoons from 13:00-16:00. We split that time in half between the eight bands as we only have four rehearsal bands, so each band got an hour and a half rehearsal. The other day we were in was Wednesday, and that was the day when we had lessons.
Last year we covered the History of Popular Music, The Music Industry, Aural Perception Skills, Studio Techniques and Sequencing Techniques. The gig at the end of the term was held at Bootleggers Music bar in Kendal and it was amazing! Up until this point I had never done a gig before in my life, but I can safely say that after doing it once, I know I want to do it for the rest of my life. If music is your passion, then you will absolutely love it here.
